Are the terrorists just “extremists” or are they symptoms of a larger disease in Islam?
We often see in the MSM about how the terrorists are just part of Islam’s “extremist” wing. How most follows of Islam are “peaceful”, I mean after all it’s the religion of peace, right? Well in my daily crawl through internet news services etc I came upon this article. It was rather interesting, and while it might not be indicative of all of Islam’s followers it does show how the worlds most Islamic populated country, Indonesia views things.
Lets take a look at some of the results of the poll:
1.3 percent of Indonesian Muslims nationwide admit using violence against people or objects they consider contradictory to their beliefs
40 percent ready to wage war for their faith.
40 percent would use violence against those blaspheming Islam
4.7 percent would tear down churches
30 percent and 58 percent approved of amputation of the left hand for thieves and the stoning to death of rapists,as well as other tenets of sharia law, and opposed the election of non-Muslims for president.
1.3 percent who committed “intimidation” against those they considered had blasphemed Islam.
These numbers are pretty impressive (not in a good way) when you consider that Indonesia is 85% islamic (200 million out of 230 million). Seriously, if you were to extrapolate those numbers over the entire 1.3 billion followers of Islam and you can see there is potentially a large problem.
