How can we show our displeasure over the amnesty bill? Is it time for a 3rd party?
I saw this post over at Hot Air.com, this post at InstaPundit and Ace Of Spades weighed in a bit too. I like them am very disappointed in our Senate and the President over the immigration Amnesty bill and what it means for America. There is a lot of anger going on over the amnesty bill, and if you are a regular reader you know I am no exception (for reference look at the CAII or immigration category to the left).
What I’m wondering is what are the best ways to show this anger, a way to focus it etc.
Allah at Hot Air is of the belief that the anger of many of us will subside by the time the 2008 elections come around and that when it’s all said and done we’ll take a bad republican over any democrat. He might be right in some cases, but think there can and will be some notable exceptions to that rule. Arlen Specter for one, I’ll vote for anyone but him, even if I do a write in for Mickey Mouse! From what I’m seeing around the net and in talking to people I know, the anger will still be high, remember this bill if signed this year will start kicking in during 2008 and we will be seeing it’s horrific results. So I think any anger that might of had a chance to subside will be getting hotter as the effects of amnesty start to show. This is especially true considering that Pelosi has said that if the amnesty bill gets through the Senate she’s going to try to get a House version done by the end of July, then of course the Congress has to reconcile the 2 version to give to the President but by that point all the heavy lifting will have been done and the President will sign it quickly.
So, could this be the issue that drives a real movement for a 3rd party? I doubt there is time for a serious 3rd Party Presidential candidate. We’re already too late in the game for it but there would definitely be some chances for some House or Senate seats with the right people running. Perhaps even enough to garner the title of “caucus” or “voting block” that would generate more interest, with an eye towards 2012.
The trick is how to avoid having a 1 plank platform and who would be the right candidates? What would we call this 3rd party? I’d vote for the Central Party. So let’s look at some things that I would offer as good planks for a 3rd party platform with an eye towards being centrist.
- Immigration reform starts with a secure border and law of the land being upheld. Violate our laws and leave the country.
- Tax reform in the way of a flat tax. All personal income under 75,000 would not be taxable and all income above that threshold would be taxed at a flat 17% rate with no loopholes. Corporate taxes would be the same rate and start 2,000,000 in income. (a friend suggested that it be based purely on profit to encourage companies to reinvest in themselves and employees etc, not sure of that) with no write offs except for one for the cost of health care of their employees.
- Health Care. Passing of a bill that would allow companies with under 100 employees to group together to get a better rate from insurance companies.
- Military- America needs a strong military and we need to encourage service. Everyone who completes a tour with the military gets the same amount of time exempt from taxes when out i.e. spend 5 years in the Army and when you get out, you get 5 years of no taxes. The Central party would also propose the organizing of a National Youth Job Corp that would help local communities with such things as eye sore cleanup, community centers, etc to help give our youth a sense of civic pride.
- Education. We in the Central party believe that the children of America are our true treasure. That our teachers should be paid accordingly AND should be held accountable for the educational output of the children. Schools must be given the resources and all the accountability that goes with those resources. Schools that do not meet minimum educational levels will result in the change over of staff. We believe that simply throwing money at our education problem without also bestowing accountability on the teachers and administration is a waste of both the child’s future and our tax dollars.
- Terrorism. We in the Central Party believe that global jihadism is a real and definitive threat to our Nations safety. We will be fair and loyal to the countries that are our friends and allies in the war against terrorism, and be no greater enemy to those who are not. Countries that support terrorism either openly or quietly must be treated as hostile. That means that countries like Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Dubai etc will receive zero in American funding and support, even in times of crisis.
- Abortion. The Central party believes that all life is sacred and starts at conception. We believe that Roe vs. Wade should be overturned and that the decision on abortions legality should be left up to the individual states to decide.
Those are just a few quick ideas that popped into my head. I’d be curious to see what everyone else thinks?
Now as to candidates, I think we would need to start with high profile people now. Running the community dentist against an incumbent would doom us to a quick demise. These would be people that had a high profile in one of the 2 current parties but have fallen out of favor with the establishment due to their beliefs. Some that come to mind are people like Joe Lierberman, Rick Santorum, Newt Gringrich, and heck toss in people like Michelle Malkin, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’reilly etc. These would have to be people committed to the idea that centrism is what this country really needs and they are willing to put their public high paying lives aside to step up for the good of America.
This post has gotten me curious as to what, you, the readers think. Comments are open and be sure to check out the forums (link at the top) and the poll in the top left.
