Watching the Republican presidential debate

posted in American Politics |

Some impressions on the candidates:

Huckabee-it’s a real shame he’s considered 2nd tier. He’s a smooth orator who nails his points harder then Bill Clinton nails interns.

Romney- He’s doing nothing to embarrass himself. He’s smooth, hitting his points and defending himself well.

McCain- He looks tired and bored. He did make the smooth move during the sit down part of the debate in getting up to address citizen questions. Others are following his lead there now but McCain did it first.

Tancredo-looks out of his element on any issue other then immigration. Love the guy but he deserves the 2nd tier status.

Paul-looks like he’s campaigning for the Democratic or Libertarian candidacy. Very isolationist.

Thompson(Tommy)- other then health care reform he’s not coming across like he deserves to be there.

Brownback-hate his idea of a 3 party federation in Iraq. It’s doomed to fail if we try. Comes across smooth, and he handled the question of “would you support Rudy and his pro-choice stance if he wins the nomination”. He had a real chance to slam Rudy. He took the high road and said he would support the candidate of the party.

Don’t forget that for a long time, the Democrats were the “war at the drop of a hat” party, and the Republicans were the party of peace. If Paul can get the Republicans off the war path, that can’t be bad!

My problem is that Paul wants to take us to a pre-WWI sort of isolationism that is not only bad for the country but bad for the world. Also with his no war response on the table act it seriously hampers negotiation with some of the nut jobs out there, don’t you think? Come on over to the brand new forums and discuss it! Logan
