Hazelton, Pa once again in the illegal immigration fight

Last June I wrote here about a sleepy little town in PA called Hazelton that had stepped up to combat illegal immigration. They basically were going after the employers and the landlords that helped enable illegal immigrants to be here. Today over at Stop the ACLU I see this article.

City’s crackdown on illegal immigrants goes on trial

Now my first thought is, what good American is suing their city for not doing enough to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into this country. Then I realized that I was awake and 2007 America and that if any one was suing anyone it was probably someone from the liberal left concerned that we might be offending illegal immigrants.

But the American Civil Liberties Union and Hispanic groups, which filed suit against the city, call the measures divisive and racist and say they trample on the U.S. government’s exclusive power to regulate immigration

Of course the ACLU is suing. *in cheesy announcers voice* “Where ever a person, city, state, or business stands up for the ideals of America, we’ll be there to sue them and knock them down!” Seriously they are supposed to be the American Civil Liberties Union, not the illegal, broke into your country in the middle of the night and steal your identities and health care civil liberties union. Look if the ACLU wants to defend an American’s right to something then how about defending my right not to have my health care costs jacked up due to hospitals giving away free health care to illegals. How about defending the rights of citizens in the country from being watered down to include non-citizens.

Now of course the ACLU will just tell you that they are standing up for those who can’t stand up for themselves, and that Hazelton is just picking on an ethnic group. However, the excellent folks in Hazelton have a different reason for these new laws there.

In court papers, Hazleton said illegal immigrants have committed at least 47 crimes since last spring — including the shooting death of a 29-year-old man — consuming much of the city’s police overtime budget. Illegal immigrants were the subject of one-third of all drug arrests in 2005, and they have driven up the costs of health care and education, the city said.

You know instead of calling it the “Illegal Immigration Relief Act” maybe they should of called it the “Crime and Health Care Cost Reduction Act”. That might of been gentler and kinder while accomplishing the same thing. Now before any bleeding hearts wonder if the Hazelton police are goosestepping checking papers lets see how it works.

The city’s remedy, the Illegal Immigration Relief Act, would impose fines on landlords who rent to illegal immigrants and deny business permits to companies that employ them. The law empowers the city to investigate written complaints about a person’s immigration status, using a federal database. Ethnicity may be used as a basis for making a complaint, as long as it is not the sole or primary factor. *Emphasis mine-Logan*

I ask you, does that seem patently unfair, immoral, or unethical? Latino groups are in a tizzy because they feel that every Latino person will get investigated (waiting on the Muslim outcry myself, because thats who I’d want checked first).

“Every Latino will be a target,” said Cesar A. Perales, president of the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund, one of the groups filing suit.

Don’t think though that this is just the ACLU and some groups beating up on a small town in PA. This is about something much larger here.

“The significance of Hazleton is about stopping this anti-immigrant movement dead in its tracks.”

Stopping the movement dead in it’s tracks eh? See if they can win in Hazelton at the US District Court level, then they have “legal precedence” that can be used against just about any small town across the country that makes a stand. It also could effect any teeth in National Law. This is pretty disconcerting stuff here, it won’t make big news in the MSM because Hazelton is so small, yet those opposed to trying to stop illegal immigration realize the importance of what this precedent could mean. Please write/call/or email your state/national politicians about this issue. Immigration reform, in my honest opinion, is the 2nd largest issue facing this country today next to the global islamic jihadist movement.

That was such an insightful counter argument. Well since you’re in as anonymous I’m going to presume that you are against what I said. That’s normally the way of the left…remain annonymous instead of getting out there and saying what they want when people know who they are. Feel free to come back and share some more um salient points to the debate.

THe thing I love the most about this whole thing is how the MSM and anyone against trying to limit illegal immigration love to drop the word “illegal” when talking about it. How DARE you try and stop illegal immigration! Its racist to want to stop people coming into this country without permission and illegally!

    I hate liberals.

I’m suprised the newspaper article even mentioned the word “illegal”, in most cases the MSM will just say immigrant instead of illegal immigrant. Personally, I want to call them thieves, since they sneak into this country and steal our health care, welfare, education resources etc.

Quite honestly I’m not that interested in what the KKK has to say about it. While we might be in agreeance on the illegal immigrant situation there are many others that we would never agree on. I do however, support your right to your beliefs, no matter how much I may disagree with them.

First, I want to thank the mayor of Hazelton for taking this stand. It’s about time someone did. As for the ACLU, they should be abolished or brought up on charges of supporting terrorists and illegal aliens. I heard on the news they say only 1% of the crime in Hazelton is committed by the illegals. Maybe so, but if you look at the info on violent crimes committed by these illegals the web pages are full of victims photos and at least 85% were committed by the Mexicans. Of course, they ran back to their rat hole in Mexico so the law cannot touch them since Mexico will not give them up. So the criminals come back. These people are a drain on SS, taxes, law enforcement, education, health care, and every other program that was set up to help Americans. We have our own to care for. I refuse to learn to speak Spanish for their sake when my country was based on the English language. If they are to stupid to learn English, they have no right being here. They are illegals. That word should say it all. They have no rights in America, when they entered it illegally. All who employ or house them should be fined, they are aiding in illegal activities.Go for it Hazelton, I am behind you 100%. Now I wish our federal government was.

The mayor of Hazelton is a hero to the rest of the nation. Thank you for standing up for what is right. How can this issue even be heard in the courts. If you are here illegally then you are a crimminal. Last time I checked crimmials are arrrested not rewarded for commiting a crime. Our federal government should be ashamed to allow this to continue. What a waste to tax dollars. This money could be used for education or healthcare.
Our federal government has now seen fit to allow Mexico to transport(via tractor trailer) goods accross the United States into Canada. In turn the US truckers can go into Mexico – the only thing is there are no truckers that want to go into Mexico. How will the government police these trucks? They won’t. How many illigals will be smuggled in? Millions.
What does Mexico do for the United States? Nothing-we can’t even purchase land in Mexico. We need to wake up -

I totally agree with you Peg, now have you called your congressman and senators? Tell them of your displeasure with the current state of things, the system still works if enough of us want to make it work.

I really have to admire Hazelton for standing up against these crimminals. None of our rights as American citizens pretain to them. They are ILLEGAL. That means lawbreakers.
When I went to school one of the things the government was supposed to do was protect our borders
and they refuse to do it. Another is to keep the States from fighting amongst themselves.
These Illegals come over here and openly demonstrate against our laws.
Calling for resignations, What kind of drug are they on???
The ones they want to resign are on their side!!!!.
I do not believe that it is the place of DC. to make law in States. If I am wrong, show me where it is in the constitution.

The number one priority for any country, society, is the protecting of the human rights of their citizens, especially the children. Which some people and small towns across America, like Hazelton Pa., are trying to do. However when facist and racist organizations come goose stepping into your community and file law suits to dictate what they want rather than putting the human rights of our citizens first leaves but only one recourse for the citizens to take to stop the human rights violations. That is taking up of arms, making bombs, like the one Timothy Mcviegh made, and embracing vigilanism. Anyone reading this who thinks this is wrong, racist or what ever you may call it. Please print your solution to stopping the human rights violations being committed by illegal aliens the raping, molesting and murdering of American citizens of American children.

There is a legal and right way to do things and a wrong way to do things. I don’t condone American violence towards Americans or even illegal aliens. The constitution has been our shield and defense and it should continue to be so. We need to vote out those that seek to weaken it and this country, not resort to violence like some McD’s eating jihadist. Groups like the KKK protesting in favor of Hazelton only damage the cause due to their hate mongering ways. Right now those that seek to ruin America are using the rules of American government better then the ones who wish to defend it. It’s a lesson we all need to learn, Don’t withdraw from the system nor rail against the system with fiery hate speech and veiled threats but rather work within system utilizing the rules/laws/methods that our forefathers created to make this country. You should vote out the lawmakers in your state that are weak on immigration, that is how you combat this issue.

I have emailed the congressmen and senators here however, I truly beleive the “system” is broken. It is all about the $$$. Our forefathers rebeled against taxation without representation. Our government has become so corrupt and self serving that perhaps it will take something as drastic as withholding our taxes to force them to listen. I don’t know what the answer is but so far nothing seems to be working.

  16. 16 On March 23rd, 2007, Logan said:

Well “witholding our taxes” will only get our houses with liens against them. Find a good candidate, who is strong on immigration and campaign for them, religously and without fail also campaign AGAINST those who don’t push for immigration reform. The system is too large, too ingrained into everything that we do for us to step outside it until it fixes itself. We need to work in the framework of the system. I firmly believe that bloggers and grassroot efforts can alter things. We just need to be persistent and consistent.

” I feel that America is the “Great Melting Pot” like we were taught in school.
But it now seems like Americans are at the bottom of the list…we pay taxes, and SS
but try to claim SS for any reason. I know that it easier to get public assistance
if you are from another country… The land of the free…YEAH RIGHT…the only ones free
are the ones that come from another country..No taxes for 10 yrs. SS even if they put
nothing into it saving there money only send home to there families . Try being a disabled american
and put in a claim for ss disability you wait for
yrs probley only to be denied. I think if people from other countries come here they
should start off with what most people start off with what you own … NO free bees!!!!!!!!!!
They should also have to serve in our armed forces to prove that they really want the same
rights and believe in what we believe in…Our men and women are dying every day fighting for
our freedom. The freedom of that we were raised to believe in..

illegal immigration is ruining this country. It makes me sick when i see these people being picked up for cheap labor at the 7 Eleven next to my house and the police station is a block and no one does a damn thing about. These people bring nothing to our society except crime and “leech” off our public services and any money they do make do they spend it in our country no they send it back to whatever shithole they came from. Myself personally would like to see every memeber of the ACLU lined up and shot for treason. The nerve of these illegals to get offened cause signs are in english only.OMFG learn to speak our goddam langauge if u come to this country! Well the long and short of it illegal’s are a real problem they were gonna have to deal with sooner or later i for one am sick of seeing this country exploited by these people if the government wont stop it im sure people like myself will start doing something about it if laws arent made to rectify the situation

  19. 19 On April 15th, 2008, Scott said:

Diane, you said “These people are a drain on SS” but the truth is that illegals pay in $7 billion a year in Social Security taxes that they cannot collect on. This $7 billion is the difference between what SS takes in in payroll taxes and what it gives out in pension benefits to our elderly and is factored into the Social Security Administration’s projections.

You also said “If they are to stupid to learn English, they have no right being here.” But, you must be aware that Mexican immigrants are learning English at a faster rate and in larger numbers than any other immigrant group in the history of the United States.

Millions of families in America are “mixed status” meaning there are illegal parents with US citizen children. In immigration raids these children often get separated from their parents, causing a lifetime of emotional pain and psychological damage. In one rain in Massachusetts two babies were so distressed over the loss of their mother’s and fathers that they ended up on IV’s in the hospital after refusing to bottle feed and becoming dehydrated. I’m surprised that there are so many Republican racsits in America who somehow see more value to society in deporting someone show is being exploited doing cheap work for us, than the damage they cause by ripping apart families and ruining children’s lives. And yet these same people have no problem with calling themselves “Christians” and proclaiming their “Family values.”
