Bill of No rights

Been a little busy today but didn’t want to have a day without any posts. I came across this recently and thought it’s something everyone should read. It’s called the Bill of No Rights and it’s written by a gentleman named Lewis Napper from Missouri.

We the sensible people of the United States, in an attempt to help everyone get along, restore some semblance of justice, avoid any more riots, keep our nation safe, promote positive behavior and secure the blessings of debt free liberty to ourselves and our great great-great grandchildren, hereby try one more time to ordain and establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt ridden, delusional, and other liberal bedwetters.

We hold these truths to be self-evident:  That a whole lot of people were confused by the Bill of Rights and are so dim that they require a Bill of Non Rights.

  • ARTICLE I — You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV or any form of wealth.

More power to you if you can legally acquire them, but no one is guaranteeing anything.

  • ARTICLE II — You do not have the right to never be offended.

This country is based on freedom, and that means the freedom for everyone, not just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc., but the world is full of idiots and probably always will be.

  • ARTICLE III — You do not have the right to be free from harm.

If you stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful. Do not expect the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently wealthy.

  • ARTICLE IV — You do not have the right to free food and housing.

Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help anyone in need but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing generations of professional couch potatoes who achieve nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional couch potatoes.

  • ARTICLE V — You do not have the right to free health care.

That would be nice but, from the looks of public housing, we’re just not interested in government run health care.

  • ARTICLE VI — You do not have the right to physically harm other people.

If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim or kill someone, don’t be surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair.

  • ARTICLE VII — You do not have the right to the possessions of others.

If you rob, cheat or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens, don’t be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a place where you still won’t have the right to a big screen TV or a life of leisure.

  • ARTICLE VIII — You don’t have the right to demand that our children risk their lives in foreign wars to soothe your aching conscience.

We hate oppressive governments and won’t lift a finger to stop you from going to fight, if you’d like. However, we do not enjoy parenting the entire world and do not want to spend so much of our time battling each and every little tyrant with a military uniform and a funny hat.

  • ARTICLE IX — You don’t have the right to a job.

All of us sure want all of you to have one, and will gladly help you in hard times, but we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful.

  • ARTICLE X — You do not have the right to happiness.

Being an American means that you have the right to pursue happiness — which by the way, is a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an over abundance of idiotic laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights.

Words to live by. Print it out and give it to the liberal victim in your life.

today’s pot of STFU

Ok, today I’m brewing up an industrial sized, kevlar coated pot of STFU for the next Mayor of Philadelphia, Michael Nutter. Now, really I should be calling Nutter the next Mayor of Philly, because well we haven’t elected a republican to run this city since I think 1952. Our current candidate doesn’t even have a platform, he’s just the sacrificial lamb because we need to run someone out there. Most people expect him to win by 40-50 pts easily. In fact, I’d consider it a win if our guy got 15% of the vote. Our city currently has more murders and shots ringing out then Anbar province, and the only real difference between Philly and Iraq right now is that Harry Reid isn’t calling for a pull out of Philly (tho he should). So let’s take a look at the ad that has me so ticked off at Nutter (pay attention to about 10 seconds in).

That’s right. Nutter wants to get out the vote to “show these 2 (Bush and Cheyney) that they are still accountable”. What a crock, seriously there hasn’t been a politician accountable for a thing in Philadelphia in my lifetime! Heck, Mayor Street won his 2nd term while being investigated by the FBI! This is a pure example of BDS and really it’s not what’s going to fix our city. For that we need not BDS but rather a Republican who is tough on crime and will actually hold city hall and the politicians working there accountable.
Mr. Nutter, enjoy the cup of STFU, you can drink it while obsessing about Bush/Cheyney instead of trying to think of ways to fix our city.Cup of STFU

Open letter to a commenter

As I said in a recent post, I’ve been hit with a bit of writers block, so postings have been quiet. Doesn’t mean I’m not checking in here or staying on top of the news. Case in point, there was a post Merlyworm wrote awhile ago about “Books everyone should read“. Recently we’ve had someone comment on that. Here’s the comment (copied exactly as he left it, no changes to spelling, grammar, or ignorance):

On July 3rd, 2007, shawn said:

So I’ve read atlas shrugged, and as a semi-liberal, which is kind of like saying I don’t much give a shit who’s in office as long as it isn’t George W. Bush, I find this book to be one of the most well-written, and though-provoking books to date. If anything, it shows how conservatives will in the end lead this country to ruin by not seeing how their traditionlistic views are destroying our country, the times are changing, money is corrupting, the only people we have in office are greedy millionaires who seem to think money gives them some kind of endowed authority over others. Want to bash on liberals? Well how’s about we take a look at your “conservative” friends. George Bush: led a war against Iraq because of so-called WMD’s that your “intelligence” said were there. In fact, this war was nothing more than him trying to finish something his father counldn’t complete in his own time. Then there is Cheney: the new, and only member of the 4th branch of government, his super-secret branch that is part executive, part legislative, all bullshit. Anyway, seeing as Atlas shrugged is in fact the most influential book in the US behind the bible, I would assume that liberals and conservatives both enjoy it. So to summarize, your stnace is ridiculous and conservatives will be the downfall of society. Thanks for your time

Now “Shawn” here didn’t leave an email or a place to contact him, so I’m going to respond to him in this post.

Dear Shawn,
Thanks ever so much for reading my page and responding to Merly’s post. While there are things he and I disagree on, our love for Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged” is one of the things we definitely agree on! First let me respond to your comments by telling you that perhaps you suffer from BDS and you might want to get that checked out. I’d really advise that you do it soon, because if Comrade Hillary wins the election you might have a very long line to wait in with socialized health care before you can get some meds. Secondly, as to your trite “Bush lied” line of bs. Allow me to point you in the direction of this piece by Horowitz. I’ll save you some time from reading it by quoting, perhaps, the most pertinent piece as it relates to your “Bush lied about WMD’s” talking point.

The Authorization for the Use of Force bill – passed by majorities of both parties in both Houses – is the legal basis for the president’s war, which Democrats have since betrayed along with the troops they sent to the battlefield. The Authorization bill begins with 23 “whereas” clauses justifying the war. Contrary to Gore and the Democratic critics of the Bush administration, only two of these clauses refer to stockpiles of WMDs. On the other hand, twelve of the reasons for going to war refer to UN resolutions violated by Saddam Hussein.

Even if these indisputable facts were not staring Gore in the face, the destruction of WMDs could not have been the “first rationale” for the war in Iraq for this simple reason. On the very eve of the war, the president gave Iraq an option to avoid a conflict with American forces. On March 17, two days before the invasion, Bush issued an eleventh-hour ultimatum to Saddam: leave the country or face war. In other words, if Saddam had agreed to leave Iraq, there would have been no American invasion. It is one of the most revealing features of the Democrats’ crusade against George Bush that they blame the war on him instead of Saddam.

Shawn, please go read the rest of the article. Horowitz is a super intelligent dude so there might be some big words there so feel free to ask an adult to be there with you or perhaps have a dictionary there for anything you don’t understand.

Now let’s talk about you total misunderstand of “Atlas Shrugged”. You seem to assume that the main characters of the book are:

If anything, it shows how conservatives will in the end lead this country to ruin by not seeing how their traditionlistic views are destroying our country, the times are changing, money is corrupting, the only people we have in office are greedy millionaires who seem to think money gives them some kind of endowed authority over others.

However, you miss the point of Rand here completely. Really what she was saying is that any form of government or societal intervention that was used to supersede an inventors or intellectual thinkers right to ideas and the profit from them was not only morally wrong but bad for the world. She compared these socialists to “looters”. Imagine Shawn, if you will, that you were the creator of the new I-phone and wanted to sell it for 500.00 a pop because it was so damn spiffy. Now imagine that a bunch of bleeding heart socialistic ninja type liberals decided that it “just isn’t fair” for only those people with 500 dollars to get one and they ordered you to sell them at 19.99. You would be outraged! The sweat of your hard work, all the time you spent designing and testing the phone to make it the best would now be given away below cost! In Rand’s world you would be among the “thinkers” and all those people forcing you to sell your product at that low price would be “looters” and “moochers”. Now you might think that she’s wrong, that you should make the phone so cheap that you never make a profit off of it. However, let’s be realistic, that’s not a way for any business to run. You wouldn’t be able to pay your workers, pay your suppliers, in effect you would be out of business before everyone got a phone. Denying a large majority of people the chance to even earn one.
Rand is talking about how socialism can and will be the doom of society, she goes on to attempt to prove (I’ll leave whether or not she proves it be up to each reader), that the one thing free market capitalism shows is that it can produce is wealth. Rand wasn’t trying to show that being a “millionaire gave some endowed authority”, rather if you read the book well you would realize that one of the leading “antagonists” is James Taggart who is from a wealthy family! In fact, you will notice that as the “thinkers” disappear they go to a place where they aren’t living in opulent mansions with tons of servants. In fact they are living in obscurity in “Galt’s Gulch”. For more info on all the details from Atlas Shrugged go look here. Shawn, I really think you need to step away from connotations such as “Democrat” and “Republican” and read the book again with a more open mind. Please bear in mind, Rand wrote this in a time way before the animosity that now exists between the left and the right and is speaking more to the potential stagnation and horrors of socialism. Thanks for stopping by and please, feel free to comment or email me at freedomofphiladelphia at gmail dot com.

Truthers go after Rudy

This morning a group of “truthers” (aka conspiracy nuts who think that the government had something to do with 9-11) accosted Rudy Guilani at a fundraiser in the Bronx.

A radical group at a Bronx fundraiser confronted Rudolph Giuliani on Tuesday morning, accusing him of being one of the “criminals of 9/11.”

The Republican nominee for president was outside City Island’s Sea Shore restaurant in the Bronx, speaking with WNBC.com’s Adam Shapiro about his fundraising in New York.Afterward, a young woman claiming to be the relative of a Sept. 11, 2001, firefighter who died when the towers collapsed, asked Giuliani why he allegedly told Peter Jennings the towers would not fall that day, but did not stop the rescue efforts of firefighters and police officers.

The woman claims Giuliani knew the towers would fall, and allowed rescuers to go to their deaths. She asked him, “How do you sleep at night?”

Thanks to people like Charlie “how much for a cleveland steamer” Sheen and Rosie “Elizabeth Hassleback hates me” O’donnel idiots like the truthers are garnering more and more steam. Tis a shame really, because these people do nothing to hide their ignorance about physics and what happened on 9-11. You can see the video of the whole thing here if the video doesn’t show below.

Freedom of speech,”hate” crime or something else?

This hit me close to home, not only because of my upbringing and closeness to so many in the military, but because it happened not far from here. The attitude of Philadelphia freedom should not include the defacing of a building built to honor and rejoice in the lives of honorable and brave men and women.

As veterans and their families filtered in to a local American Legion on Memorial Day, they found a somber scene.

Swastikas were sprayed all over the Manoa American Legion building in Delaware County, prevalently displayed and polluting the patriotic look of the veterans’ sanctuary.”I was just shocked to think that someone would come to a place like this and desecrate it with a swastika,” said Phil Miller of American Legion Manoa Post 667. “Especially on Memorial Day. It’s just horrible.”

Some volunteers spent the day of honor and remembrance painting over the fresh swastika graffiti that tarnished the post.Police were still investigating the vandalism.

Some would call it free speech and say that it is to be defended, some would call it a hate crime. The reporter here called it “vandalism”. What happened to calling it like it is? I’ve been to that post a few times, every time I’ve been there I was met with brave, patriotic American vet’s who support this country and our freedoms. However, someone took those freedoms and used them to deface the building. Now I’m not sure I’d call it a hate crime, all crimes by their very nature are driven by hate in some respect. Nor would I just chalk it up to “vandalism”, but how about we designate a new crime and call it “abuse of constitutional rights”? See just because you have the right to free speech/expression etc doesn’t mean you need to constantly use it to demean someone else’s rights. Now what will happen here is that it will be found out to be some dumb ass punks, they will get a slap on the wrist and let go. What should happen here is that these punks, with their families should be brought down to the Legion and made to clean it, take care of the grounds for awhile and maybe even spend a few hours listening to these vets talk about what they’ve done for the country. Will it happen, no of course not, but one can hope.
