Newt Gringrich gets it. He simply gets it and he isn’t afraid to speak his mind. There is a reason that Newt has a large following and it’s because he not only has a real grip with whats wrong with this country but he articulates ideas on how to fix things. I’ve said it here before that I’m a Newt fan and if in September he announces a run for President he has my support. Heck even Chuck Norris wants Newt to run! In a satirical piece Chuck writes about what his “campaign promises” would be if he ran (basically a riff on all those “Chuck Norris can” things on the web). At the end of it he says this:
Looking over my campaign promises, I’m sure my liberal friends are even now rejoicing that I’m not really running for president. However, my hope is still out that Newt will jump into the race!
Now in my humble opinion, Chuck Norris is a celebrity endorsement you would want to have!
Here’s why I say Newt really “gets it”. He’s talked about the global war on terror, he’s talked about inefficiencies and inadequacies in our government, here he gets it about the amnesty bill.
# When Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff said that we had to “bow to the reality” of millions of people being here illegally, he illustrated the difference between Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan as President.
Carter kept trying to convince us to accept malaise as the best we could do and to lower our expectations. Reagan told us we had every right to dream great dreams because we were Americans. Tell your senator that Secretary Chertoff needs to get off the Carter failure team and join the Reagan success team. That goes for everyone else in Washington who is trying to tell us we have no choice except to “bow to” illegality.
He also goes on to nail one of the biggest problems with the amnesty bill as it relates to homeland security.
But ask this simple question: Under the proposed law, will local, state and federal officials really try to distinguish between those who came to the U.S. illegally prior to Jan. 1, 2007 (eligible under the proposed law for amnesty), and those who have arrived here illegally — or those who overstay their visas — after Jan. 1, 2007 (not eligible for the proposed amnesty)? The case of the 75 prior interactions with police of the Fort Dix terrorists demonstrates that we currently are incapable of identifying people here illegally, even if their names are in the judicial system. If 12 to 20 million are amnestied, who is seriously going to try and distinguish between the old illegal and the new illegal?
Seriously, we need to still worry about this bill. It’s not dead yet. Call your senators and tell them what you think about it, and that your memory of their vote WILL be a factor when you pull the lever in the voting booth.

Ok, I think I’ve got the majority of things fixed for any platform. The only issues I seem to be having still are these.
internet explorer 6, the left sidebar starts about 2/3’s down the page rather then at the top where it should and the footer isn’t showing. They are probably related issues but I’m not sure.
internet explorer 7. TheĀ footer isn’t showing.
firefox, everything shows up as it should. So if there are any wordpress experts out there who want to drop me a line at freedomofphiladelphia at gmail dot com or use the comments here or at the contact form and can offer some advice I’d be very grateful!
Well, I think I’ve fixed a majority of the issues that people using ie 6 could see. You now should be able to read the posts correctly etc. Yet for some reason the left side bar is starting way down the page and the footer isn’t showing up in ie 6 or 7. Still working, thanks for your patience.
